A scarce first edition, first printing, of the author's first book. Iceberg Slim’s autobiographical novel sent shockwaves throughout the literary world when it published in 1969. The story felt mundane outside of a few quirky touches, such as a glossary of pimp slang that was employed throughout the book. This title has gone through countless printings, 19 by last count and its first printing, a paperback original, remains a plum for any serious collector. In his book Pimp: The Story of My Life, Iceberg Slim recounts his personal autobiography as a intellectually-gifted teenager growing up in the world before desegregation. His father deserted them while he was a baby. Only someone who hates or feels the need to control women would make a good' pimp. A good' pimp only cares about using his women until they have no more left to give. His first book, PIMP, is available in ten languages, and sold more than two million copies by 1973 just five years after its first printing in 1967.
